Marlene Ruth Shoddy
June 22, 1935 - July 6, 2018

Marlene Shoddy, 83, of Culver passed away at home on July 6, 2018 surrounded by loved ones.
Marlene was born to Carl and Laura (Shaw) Stubbs on June 22, 2018 in Culver.  She was their third child and
only daughter.  She graduated from Culver High School.  At age 17 she began a long career in the accounting
department at the State Exchange Bank in Culver, working part-time until she graduated.  After 37 years, she
retired from the bank and later went to work at the Culver Police Dept. for several years.  She was married on
August 29, 1969 to Richard Shoddy, who she met on a blind date set up by her cousin and his sister.
Marlene's involvement in her church was the most important thing to her after her family.  She was passionate
about sharing her God with the children of the community through teaching Sunday School and helping organize
VBS events.  She served in many positions over the years and after her retirement became instrumental in the
operations of the church's thrift shop.
In 2015 she found a new church home and for the last three years, she
immersed herself in doing whatever she could to
serve there. Two weeks before her passing she was still in a
classroom helping teach Sunday School.  Her faith was incredibly strong and carried her through a lifetime of ups
and downs.
Marlene is survived by her husband Richard Shoddy of Culver; daughter Debra (Ronald) Darr of Columbia City; g
randchildren Scott Gambrell and Sheena Leugers; great
grandchildren Ana and Cora Leugers and Cela and Zoie Gambrell and sister-in-law Janet Stubbs of Elkhart.
She is also survived by her "daughter of the heart", Karen, and her family whom she loved as her own family.
She will be greatly missed by her church family and a host of friends and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers William and Donald.
A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018 from 11:00 am -1:00 pm at the Pretty Lake Trinity
United Methodist Church on State Road 17  west of Plymouth.  Pastor Tami Boggs will officiate services at 1:00
PM.  Interment will follow at Culver Masonic Cemetery.
Memorials may be given in Marlene's memory to Pretty Lake Trinity UMC.
