Barbara Jean (Long) Quivey, 86, of Culver passed away on Friday, December 16, 2016 surrounded by family.
Barbara was born in Lake County, Indiana on June 7, 1930, to the late Hubert Fillmore Long and Mary Isabelle Osburn. Barbara
graduated from Lowell High School in 1948 and received her Bachelor degree (with Honors) in Occupational Therapy from Wayne
State University, Detroit, MI, in 1953. She married Jack Arnold Quivey of Lowell, Indiana on October 13, 1951.
After graduation from college, Barbara was employed at the Hines Veteran's Administration Hospital in Illinois where she helped
in the rehabilitation of wounded Korean War Veterans. After moving to Marshall County she was employed as an Occupational
Therapist and Activity Director for Pilgrim Manor Nursing Home in Plymouth, IN for over 27 years. She was active in the Indiana
Activity Director's Association, serving as President of the organization. For many years Barb was a volunteer leader in Cub
Scouts and 4-H. Barbara was also a long time member of the Grace United Church of Christ in Culver and dedicated many years
of service to the church, including several years as church secretary. In later years she was a driver for Meals on Wheels and was
a driving force in beginning the Community Garden in Culver.
Barbara was a dedicated wife, loving mother, and compassionate friend. She had an optimistic view on life and enjoyed working
with people. Her favorite activities were gardening, reading, caning chairs, quilting, and hobby geology. She will be missed!
Barbara is survived by three children; Marla Fry of Ellettsville, IN, David (Jill) Quivey of Sedona, AZ, and Beverly (Lajos) Zadravecz
of Waynesville, MO. She is also survived by two grandchildren; Lajos and Sierra Zadravecz.
Barbara, an only child, was preceded in death by her husband Jack Quivey; son Mark Quivey, and grandson Michael Fry.
A time of visitation will be held at Grace United Church of Christ in Culver on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 12:30 – 1:00 PM
with a memorial service at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations are made in Barbara's name to Grace United Church of Christ in Culver.
