Violet Mae Mikesell, 96, went to heaven peacefully, surrounded by her family on Thursday, December 20, 2018
at 6:30 pm at Millers Merry Manor, Culver, IN.
Mae was born on November 6, 1922 in Delong, IN to the late Edward and Francis (Carpenter) Woodward. In
1941, Mae married Dale E. Clark who preceded her in death in 1944 while serving our country in WW II. On
January 29, 1947 Mae married Oscar Marvin Mikesell who preceded her in death on March 30, 2005.
Mae lived most of her life in Culver. She was a member of Grace Church where she served as ladies auxiliary
president. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She worked most of her life in different job capacities but
mostly cared for her family. Family was the center of her life.
Surviving Violet are her daughters: Joyce Kowatch Barclay, Punta Gorda, FL, Vicky Huys of Plymouth. IN and
DeAnn (Dee) Florea of Granger, IN; sister Gayla Uhler of Palm Desert, CA; grandchildren: Angela Garner,
Nancy (Travis) Weidner both of Monterey, IN, Todd Jenkins of South Bend, Tucker Florea of Mishawaka, and
Max Florea of Indianapolis, IN; and great-grandchildren Jonathan, Savanna, Alexandria, Tannor, and Greyson as
well as many nieces and nephews.
Mae lost two children, Douglas Marvin Mikesell (1972) and Barbara Sue Ritter (2013), and grandson Thomas
Alan Guy (2011) as well as ten of her eleven siblings: sisters Margaret Cross, Lucille Bennett, Pauline
Archambeault, Opal Woodward, Sue Kemple and brothers Donovan, Edward (Bud), Robert, Raymond , and
A Christian Memorial Service to honor Mae’s life will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the
Wesley Methodist Church, 511 School St, Culver, IN with a one hour visitation prior to the Memorial Service.
Memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Auxiliary of Culver, IN.
The family would like to give special thanks and recognition to the staff of Millers Merry Manor and the Harbor
Light Hospice nurses for the excellent care Mae received.
