Martin Mahler, 92, of Culver, passed away April 4, 2016 at his home.
Martin was born March 25, 1924 to Leslie and Bernice (Marsh) Mahler in Green Township, Marshall County, and the
family moved to Peach Road, Culver, in 1927. There he resided all his life. He graduated from Culver High School in
1942, where he was a proud member of the successful basketball team. After graduation he began his lifelong love of
being a farmer, Angus cattle producer and cattle feeder. He was married to Ruth Stuntz on February 28, 1948. She
preceded him in death in 2000. He later married Linda Mohn. She survives.
Martin was a member of Marshall Co. 4-H Beef Club and showed the Grand Champion Steer in 1942. He continued
his involvement in the 4-H program by later being a member of the beef committee that traveled west to purchase
committee calves for the program. His family can boast of 55 continuous years of showing livestock at the Marshall
Co. fair. The tradition is continued in Illinois by the grandkids.
Martin is survived by his wife Linda; son Alan Mahler of Culver; daughter Kaye (Dale) Schultz of Culver; step-children
Jason, Jeff, and Jennifer; granddaughter-in-law Pam and her children Ashley and Makaela and great grandson
Christian David; and grandson Chad (Natalie) Mahler of Earlville, IL and their children Jaiden, Macy, Sage, and Kolby.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Betty Lou Mahler and Barbara Quivey, and grandson David Mahler.
A time of visitation will be held at the Odom Funeral Home, Culver, on Sunday, April 10, 2016 from 3:00 - 8:00PM
EST. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, April 11, 2016 at 11:00 AM EST. Burial will follow
at Poplar Grove Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Marshall Co. 4-H Beef Club.
